Join in this historic day of commemoration and healing held in conjunction with observances throughout the world marking the 400th year since the arrival of enslaved Africans in the English colonies. This event recognizes and highlights the resilience and contributions of African Americans from that seminal moment forward, while simultaneously acknowledging the painful impact of slavery, racial discrimination, and racism on our Nation. Kansas City’s own Bird Fleming and the Soundz of Africa Ensemble will perform the vibrant, traditional music and dances of African people.

This interactive presentation is centered around the history, culture and power of the sacred African tradition of The Talking Drum. Drumming crosses racial lines and creates a unified voice. In this historic year, and on this sacred day… Let’s Talk, Let’s Drum, and Let’s Heal!
