A Call to Action
by Rev. Ken Fendrick
President, Board of Directors

Recently, I have been contemplating this verse from Isaiah 6:8 (NRSVUE), “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I; send me!’” That scripture seems to be driving my decisions and choices as to where and how I serve UUMS. Upon graduation and ordination in 2021, I was asked to join the UUMS Alumni Association. Without hesitation, I answered, “Here am I!” When asked to serve on the UUMS Board of Directors, and as a Board Officer, and on several committees, I enthusiastically said “Here am I!” As ministers, we may be bombarded with requests to serve in various ways, but we must learn to say ‘no’ to some opportunities. While saying no is important, I believe we sometimes deny ourselves the opportunity to learn, grow, and bless through service if ‘no” becomes our default. By being willing to answer the calls, I have experienced the sheer magnitude of God’s infinite resources and channels of distribution. I have found that when I eagerly answer “Here am I,” the persons and resources I need to fulfill these callings are magnetized to me each and every day. Today, I am calling out to you. This is an opportunity to express your willingness to serve and say, “Here am I!” by joining the UUMS Alumni Association, teaching classes, serving as an academic advisor/mentor for students and candidates for ordination, providing financial support to the school and/or alumni association, and serving on one or more Board committees: Bylaws, Strategic/Visioning, Fundraising/Planned Giving, Personnel, Board Candidate Search, and the Reunion/Conference Planning. If the voice within you is saying “Here am I!” to any of these opportunities, reach out to me at
