Unity Urban Ministerial School Internship Requirements For A Mentoring Minister and Ministry

General Requirements of the minister who supervises the student:

The minister must have been involved in a successful church ministry for a least 3 years

The minister must be an Ordained Unity Minister in good standing with the Unity

Worldwide Ministries. The minister is subject to the approval of Unity Urban Ministerial School and Unity Worldwide Ministries.

 

Responsibilities of the supervising minister regarding student experiences:

The supervising minister is to ensure that the intern is able to experience all of the

following:

Lead Worship Service Experience

  1. Plan (1x)
  2. Give message and meditation (2x)

Assist Minister

Special Services–Weddings, Memorial, Christening, Holiday

  1. Observe and perform (preferred) if possible (4x)

Prayer & Meditation Activities–Spontaneous and Scheduled

  1. Prayer Service (6x)
  2. Healing Services (6x)
  3. Individual Requests (6x)

Teaching Adult Classes (2 six-week classes)

Workshops (2x)

Youth Activities

  1. Attend/YE Training
  2. Participate in Youth Conference
  3. Give children's sermon (1x)

Pastoral Care

  1. Spiritual Counseling (requires faculty approval) plus summary statement
  2. Hospital/Home Visitation

Day-to-Day Church Business

  1. Board Meetings (3x)
  2. Volunteer Coordinating
  3. Staff Supervision
  4. Strategic Planning Project based on church's vision statement
  5. Oversee Public Relations/Marketing/Media Project (1x)

 

Attend Regional/Sub-Regional Meetings.

 

Gain Knowledge of the Unity Worldwide Ministries & Regional Services Available; Polity.

 

Self-Care

 

Requirements of the ministry hosting a ministerial student enrolled in the Internship in

Church Ministry Course: 

The ministry is subject to the approval of Unity Urban Ministerial Program and Unity

Worldwide Ministries

The ministry must be in good standing with the Unity Worldwide Ministries

The ministry is willing to work with Unity Urban Ministerial School Credentialing Team

and the student

The ministry honors the Unity Urban Ministerial School/Unity Worldwide Ministries

expectations

The ministry is willing to support the supervising minister in the process

The ministry must be large enough to meet all or almost all of the students qualifying

requirements:

  • Adequate opportunities for the student to achieve or experience
  • Observation and evaluation of the student: The supervising minister is to:
    Observe and evaluate the student in the following areas:
  • The student’s ministerial presence, listening skills, interpersonal skills, attitude, leadership skills, responsibility, self-discipline and maturityb
  • The students professional appearance and demeanor
  • The students actions in the keeping of agreements

 

Document the hours completed by the student.

Ensure that the students are able to participate in the areas of church ministry, as

listed above.

Meet with the student each week individually.

Overview and evaluate projects and/or activities the student is participating in or

observing

Complete an evaluation of the student. 

The supervising minister is to share this information in the final weekly meeting with the student, and to submit this information to Unity Urban Ministerial School and Unity Worldwide Ministries

immediately after the meeting with the student using a provided form.

Complete an evaluation about the supervision experience using the provided form.
