Since establishing the Unity Urban Ministerial School Alumni Association in 2018, we have been quite busy building a strong, viable and thriving organization. In three short years, your Alumni Association has launched a Scholarship Committee, presented a successful ‘Family Reunion’ and provided major support for the Ruth M. Mosley Resource Center at Westside Unity in Detroit – the House That Ruth  Built.

Your Alumni Association is here to support and nurture UUMS graduates and students as they continue the quest to serve their congregants and spiritual communities. Alumni Association members lovingly and willingly work with current students as advisors; and as the number of students grows, the opportunities for more people to serve as advisors.

We are also a major contributor to the overall success of the Urban School by assisting the Board of Directors to reach its goals of assuring that UUMS maintains its status as a cutting-edge institution, known for staying ahead of the pack in terms of innovative education practices and policies. The board has recently established several committees with the intent of taking our school to the next level. Alumni Association members as well as UUMS supporters who have a vested interest in the school’s growth and future success are encouraged to reach out to Alumni Association President, Rev. Vernelle Nelson; UUMS Executive Director, Rev. Sandra Campbell; or UUMS Board President, Rev. Joanne Watson to offer their services. Many hands make light work. We welcome the many helping hands that come forward and look forward to getting to know you as we work together to make UUMS even stronger than it is now.

Peace and blessings.
Rev. Vernelle Nelson [2016]
President, UUMS Alumni Association
