We’ve Come This Far By Faith!
Whenever I set my intentions on writing an article or a lesson, the first thing that comes to mind is a song. At this writing, the choir in my head is singing the song inspired by 2 Corinthians 5:7; “For we walk by faith and not by sight.” We begin the New Year on Faith, which is represented by Peter, the location in the body temple is the front of the brain, and the energy vibration is royal blue. An article in the December issue Daily Inspiration for Better Living, titled “Faith, My First Responder,” discusses how the Faith faculty pulls and lifts us from challenging situations. As the “House that Ruth Built” begins a new year, we honor the faith on which Unity Urban Ministerial School was established and the many achievements and challenges experienced through the years. It is upon this firm foundation of faith that Rev. Ruth’s vision continues to evolve. Throughout the past 45 years since the School opened in 1979, there have been many achievements and challenges. Without the faith of our founder and those who joined her in putting feet to her prayers, the Urban School would not have withstood the tests of time. As Jesus said to Peter, and as Rev. Ruth may have gently whispered when this dream entered her heart, “upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of Hades cannot prevail against it.” We in UUMS stand on the firm foundation laid by a woman of great faith, and like the song says, We’ve come this far by faith, leaning on the Lord; trusting in God’s holy word; God never failed us yet. Oh, can’t turn around; we’ve come this far by faith.” Let us continue to walk by faith toward the upward movement of Unity Urban Ministerial School and the entire Unity movement.

Without the faith of our founder and those who joined her in putting feet to their prayers, the Urban School would not have withstood the tests of time. As Jesus said to Peter, and as Rev. We in UUMS stand on the firm foundation laid by a woman of great faith, and like the song says, We’ve come this far by faith, leaning on the Lord; trusting in God’s holy word; God never failed us yet. Oh, can’t turn around; we’ve come this far by faith.” Let us continue to walk by faith toward the upward movement of Unity Urban Ministerial School and the entire Unity movement.
It is fitting to begin the new year with the Power of Faith, the first of the twelve powers we study in New Thought.
From Keep a True Lent (148-149)
Charles Fillmore, Unity Co-founder, defines faith as the perceiving power of mind linked with a power to shape substance; spiritual assurance; and the power to do the seemingly impossible. It is a force that draws to us our heart’s desire right out of the invisible spiritual substance. It is a deep inner knowing that that which is sought is already ours for the taking, the “assurance of things hoped for” (Hebrews 11:1).
Faith working in spiritual substance accomplishes all things. This is the faith that cooperates with creative law. Exercised in spiritual consciousness, it finds its abode, and without variation or disappointment brings results that are seemingly miraculous.
Faith is the reality of things spiritual develops the faith center in humankind’s brain. When the mental eye is illumined with faith, it sheds a radiance that hovers like a halo around the head and extends in lessening degree throughout the whole body. “When the eye is single, the whole body is full of light” (Matthew 6:22).
The halo that the early artists painted around the heads of the saints was not imaginary, but real. This illuminating power of faith covers one’s whole constitution, making him/her master of all the forces centering on spiritual consciousness.
I realize that my faith in the invisible is building a real abiding substance in my mind and my body. Spiritual ideas grow quickly when planted in the rich soil of my mind, and my body temple changes accordingly.
I affirm: “I have faith in the glorious infusion of the more abundant life of Christ vitalizing me, I am lifted up and healed.”

“With this faith, we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith, we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood.” ~ Martin Luther King, Jr., August 28, 1963
