A Legacy of Love, Truth, and New Thought by Rev. Janie-Marie Manigault

“My ordination is not simply a personal milestone. It is the continuation of a family legacy that spans generations of teaching, healing, education, and spiritual leadership.”

On June 1, 2026, I was ordained as a Unity minister at Unity Village. More than a ceremony, it was, for me, the fulfillment of a lifelong journey immersed in the teachings of Truth, affirmative prayer, and unconditional love. At the Sunday service at Unity Village Chapel, I was overcome with emotion when the words, “Welcome Home,” appeared on the screen. More than a simple greeting, the words were a divine affirmation of the path that had begun more than fifty years earlier, when I accompanied my father, Rev. Ransford N. Manigault (ordained in 1991), mother, Rev. Dr. Annette L. Manigault, and sister, Ranetta “aka” Yaa Yaa A. Kumi, to Unity Village in 1975 for my mother’s ordination. None of us could have imagined how that experience would plant seeds of faith and purpose that would eventually lead to my becoming an ordained Unity minister. Returning that weekend, along with my daughter, to the very place where the seed was planted in me was nothing short of a miracle.

My mother was a Licensed Unity Teacher, Christian Science Practitioner, and dedicated educator who served the New York City Board of Education for more than thirty years. She believed deeply in the transforming power of New Thought principles and intentionally raised my sister and me with affirmative prayer, positive thinking, and the unwavering understanding that we were expressions of Divine Mind. Those lessons became the foundation of my life.

Following in the footsteps of both of my parents, I devoted more than thirty-five years to education in both the public and private sectors, teaching students from nursery through college. Throughout my career, I sought to inspire each student while quietly living the New Thought principles that had shaped my life. I carried with me the unwavering belief that every child possesses divine potential and that love, encouragement, and the recognition of Truth have the power to awaken greatness within us all.

In my family, education was never limited to the classroom. It was a sacred calling—a way of revealing the Truth that every person is blessed, guided, and surrounded by Divine Love. Learning was not simply about acquiring knowledge; it was about remembering who we are as spiritual beings.

My ordination is not simply a personal milestone. It is the continuation of a family legacy that spans generations of teaching, healing, education, and spiritual leadership. It is the living expression of a mother who nurtured faith, a father who modeled ministry and service, a daughter who embraces that calling, and a community that continues to affirm the power of Truth.

As I begin this new chapter of ministry, I carry forward the wisdom that has guided my life: that Divine Mind is always present, that education awakens the soul, and that every individual is already whole, worthy, and infinitely loved.

Looking back, I realize that the seeds planted through love, faith, and positive thinking often blossom far beyond what we can imagine. A little girl who came to Unity Village to celebrate her mother’s ordination returned decades later to answer her own call. And as I stood there, surrounded by Spirit and community, seeing the words “Welcome Home,” I knew they were not just displayed on a screen—they were speaking directly to my heart.
