This month, we focus on the faculty of Understanding. The disciple is Thomas, the location in the body temple is the front of the brain, and the color vibration is gold.

The Unity Convention held the week of June 17, 2024, was a huge success with dozens of opportunities to gain wisdom and understanding. Among the 300+ attendees, there were a couple dozen from UUMS, including alumni, faculty, staff, and graduates. We started with our annual UUMS open house with food, fun, and fellowship in the Fillmore Chapel on Sunday evening, June 16. On Monday, we celebrated the graduation and ordination of eight UUMS students. We proudly witnessed the licensing of our students, Kabelo Letebele, Victor Mokgoasi, of South Africa, Ildiko Kudlik of Hungary, and Emotimi Nicky Cleopas, of Nigeria, Kabelo Letebele, of the Unity Centre of Love and Light in Johannesburg, South Africa through the International Ministerial Program. A picture is worth a thousand words, so this month’s issue includes a brief gallery of the convention’s happenings. On Juneteenth, UUMS sponsored an opening ceremony that painted a picture of Juneteenth with African drumming and dancing, a soul-food buffet, and two workshops, This is Our Story; This is Our Song. These experiences got rave reviews as they helped participants gain a greater understanding of the origin and purpose of Juneteenth, the walks of two Black pioneers in Unity–Rev. Dr. Johnnie Colemon and Rev. Dr. Ruth Mosley, and the Black church experience.

Dr. Catherine Thomas, former Executive Director and creator of the UUMS online curriculum was surprised with the Ruth Mosley Award for Leadership.
